One question is, one of my girls smell really reall good...like sweettarts, all the time. Her back...if I pick her up and kiss her on the back...I smeel sweettarts every single time. For the longest time also. I asked my room mate the other day if she smelled it and she said yes. Does this mean anything? Or is she just extra sweet. (haha).

Second question. I noticed my other girl's hair seems to be getting "curly" not poodle curly but curly, wavy, soft wirey. Is it possible she is half curly haired? I have asked a similar question about this before a while back but her hair seems to be getting more curlier than before. I have seen everyones curly hair rats on here before and it dosnt really look like them. Not sure about it. Any ideas?

Ok...well I was just now looking around some catching up since I have been gone alot. Someone asked about coats, and someone posted pics of velveteen rats and the coat on the velveteen looks like the girls coat I was asking about. Do velveteen have normal whiskers? Or is it possible she is part velveteen and part normal? I of course don't know where they cane from. I just got them from a local petstore when they were very small.

Hi!!
First question... in my opinion, most intact girls smell like grape soda so ya, very sweet!! I love it!

Second question, yep, she must be velveteen and they can have straight whiskers. :D

Baby Girls' grape smell sticks to your skin! And her cage NEVER smells bad. My boyfriend called me one day after he had been working for 6 hours and said that he could still smell Baby Girl's scent after all that time. It's really, really sweet! We get compliments on it all the time from people who think rats smell bad. We tell them to smell baby girl and they always think that we must wash her with something, LOL! it's funny!

Thats just the funniest thing I have ever heard that they smell like that. Now that Jo said grape soda... it does smell alot like that. So sweet. Well if Bailey is velveteen she has straight wiskers. The other is normal. Must of been a fluke thing getting a velveteen in with normal rats? Shes so cute. Her hair just keeps getting fuller.

Jennifer......thanks I needed a chuckle this morning. Do they really smell like that? I have only ever had girls and never knew they smelled so sweet. Who would think males would smell like fritos?

Yes, intact males smell like corn chips. Sad to say they lose that once they are neutered. The smell slowly fades away. I actually have a neutered male who smells grape soda. He's in a cage with 5 ladies. lol

You're welcome!!!

The next thing I need to do is to eat a plate of corn chips along with a can of grape soda... just to see if they're compatible... :)

Both of my neutered boys, Chai and Miles, smell like grape soda and also live with the ladies! The third boy, Luke, has retained his corn chip smell.

I dont know why but this thread just makes me chuckle. I keep coming back and reading it just for the laugh. I just never knew and cant believe that rats smell like that and that they are suppose to. I just thought all this time, hmm my girls are soo clean!

I also didnt know you can have that many varieties on one litter. I have a standard and a velveteen then.
