Ok, Ive noticed my newly adopted rat is making some funky noises -somewhat randomly and infrequently, but since out of the 4 rats Ive owned previously have never made much of any kind of noise-Im wondering if this is something I should be worried about and what to look/listen for to know for sure if its a problem.

If it IS something-is it something that means a vet visit? and also having small children in the house, I sure would want to know if that would be a health issue concerning them as well.

No risk to your kids, but a vet visit would be helpful. Breathing noises could mean a respiratory infection, if it keeps happening.

Ok, I will keep a close eye/ear on her. It seemed to be when I was moving around her cage, and its her first day here, could be she's just stressed. If it keeps up I'll get her checked out for sure. Thanks :)

It could be just the stress of the move. A few more days of noise and it would be time to see a vet. Hopefully it will just resolve itself.

I got a chance to listen closer this morning.

Ive never heard any rat make any noise other than bruxing, so Im not sure what a rat sneeze or even chirp is gunna sound like.
It sounds kind of like a low churring noise. She had been active last night but not making any noises until this morning.
It did seem like the more I disturbed the hideaway she was in the more she did it.
Im going to try to get it recorded later this evening when I get home, if I can.

Sneezes are pretty obvious, you'll know if it's a sneeze or not. Chirping is...weird...but again, you will know right away if that's the noise she's making. It's kinda-sorta-but-not-really like a bird's chirp.

I haven't heard her make any sounds all day. Just going to keep an eye on her. She's been much more active and exploring today.
