Between Chelle and I we have no idea what this could be. One of my boys (about 1.5 years) has blood (not porph) coming from his nose when he sneezes. He has no lung sounds, no gurgling sounds, not dehydrated, minimal weight loss and still has a good appetite. He has been started on doxy and baytril and I have put a humidifier in the room but I have no idea what's causing this. Anyone have any ideas?

The only thing that comes to mind is the effects of rat poison, unfortunately. Is there any chance he could have come into contact with it?

Nope definitely no rat poison but I just realized my Mom has been using diatomaceous earth to get rid of some ants. And Chelle thinks she remembers reading something about it negatively effecting rats.

What about a scratch in the nose or even polyps? My mom had a rat that kept having nose bleeds too. He was brought to the vet, it was a real nose bleed but it stopped eventually.

The blood is coming out of both nostrils but only when he sneezes.

That's the way Kozar was too, only when he sneezed. Vet figured he had scratched up inside his nose or had a polyp but it went away on it own.

I'm hoping he's on his way to recovery. After starting him on baytril and cleaning up all of the diatomaceous earth, I have noticed a decrease in the amount of blood around his nose and he seems more alert *fingers crossed*

That would be scary if it's that stuff that did it, especially since many website claims it's very safe on animals.
We'll need to add this info to the thread that was first started by lizmo since that thread contains a lot of information on Diadiatomaceous earth.

The only problem with that is I'm not 100% sure what caused all this or which treatment (baytril, eliminating the diatomaceous earth or the humidifier) is the ones that's making him better.

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to write this :( Last night when I left work work Queen was the same as he had been for the past week and a half (nose bleeding on and off but not dehydrated and still responsive). And I had planned to call Dr. G when I got home from work for an appointment this weekend. Queen didn't give me that option, when I got home from work this morning he was lethargic and I think he had aspirated some blood. I immediately rushed him to my local vet and made the decision to let him go. This vet also thunks it was something weird like high blood pressure or a clotting deficiency.

I'm so sorry Queener, you were way to young and I'm not sure what that cage is going to do without you to keep them in line.
