I found tart in the cage not himself. I seen porph on his nose but it is kinda dry in here. I picked him up set him on the floor. Look again and found him back in the cage. He is drooling...it was running down his chin... I wiped it with a napkin and it looked almost pink but I found a glob of it on the towel and it almost looks like lab block mixed with spit or something.

I have him in a cage alone, he does sound wheezy, do they get wheezy when they are choking?

Sometimes it looks like the worst respiratory attack ever, but the drooling mixed with lab block pretty well says he's choking. Is he still going through the retching motions?

I never seen the movement that is why I had to ask! I knew there were obvious signs of choking but I had the drool from choking and the wheezing from getting sick sound. I nebulized him to be safe because I have no idea what is happening. He is sitting in the hospital cage, no wheezing and no drooling right now..... but he isnt happy with the set up, he is just staring at me. He seems ok other wise he is alert and runs from me in his typical fashion.

Can you put him back with his buddies? After a choking incident they are very tired and usually sleep it off. He might be stressed alone in the hospital cage.

I will, I wasnt sure what was happening and with 12 cage mates with most of them being 6 month old males, he was trying to run away from them LOL he is the one generally picked on being the only neutered boy in the group!

I had no idea they could be wheezy while choking. I guess from all the spit that they are producing?

If my ratters only knew I dont want to learn anything else about ratty health !

I guess he didnt need any recovery time. He slept for a bit in the litter box, then ate some peas, in fact he ate almost of the peas and now he is off running around on the floor like nothing happened. Yay!..He had me worried...

Yay!

Maybe it was just that mushy block you found that got stuck to his throat? He could have just coughed it up quickly and thought nothing of it, lol.

When he recovers i am going to check him over good and see if something can be causing this but he always looks fine other wise......

I will feel his throat and check his teeth.....

He is over it now, he was full of drool again and doing a bit of the motion....I will check him over tomorrow, I might split them up for dinner time into groups of 3, he does get tormented by all the babies so I dont know if he is rushing to eat it or what?

He had Kale, carrots and Cucumbers so it isnt really something that can cause a major choking hazard.
