Curly fell - not a big distance. she is breathing but is COMPLETELY still, won't move AT ALL. brain damage or something it's really weird, please help!

Did you see how she landed? It sounds like she really needs a vet. Make sure you keep her warm and hydrated to prevent shock.

It must have been her head for her to have reacted like this. but it really did look like her legs! she's moving now but slowly and clumsily.

sounds like neuro to me. Don't give anything, metacam and ibu can both exacerbate bleeding issues.
hopefully you can get her to the vet soon, Good luck
the boys and I are sending healing vibes.

She may be in severe pain and it's causing this reaction. It's really important to keep her warm and hydrated to prevent shock in the short term. If you can take her to a vet to try to get Prednisone or something similar to help with inflammation plus something for the pain, that would be best. If she has internal injuries there may be nothing that can be done except keep her comfortable :hugs:

Remember that falling might not be the cause of all of this, she might have had something else (like a stroke or seizure) that caused the fall. Make sure your vet looks into all possibilities.

CRAZY night. She fell at 10pm and we took her to the emergency vet at about 11pm. First we took the taxi to the wrong address (yes, verrrrrry silly!) so we had to get another, then we decided not to waste more money afterwards and had to carry the two Ratties (took Lady as well to keep Curly company) the 3 miles back (don't worry - they were in a nice and cosy quiet box).

Curly was fine once we got to the vet, actually. She's likely getting treatment for either neuro or PT, . i think you guys were right; she didn't just fall, she had some kind of failure that caused her to lose her balance. My boyfriend suspected this too but I didn't really witness it.

One thing I didn't know that the vet told me was that PT's can show in the form of a coat in poor condition? Curly has quite tatty fur with a few bald patches, I just never really stopped to think about why.

She was in such a bad state :-( I really hope they don't find anything else wrong when we go back tomorrow. She just went completely still and was breathing so heavily. They she had to drag her body around everywhere :-(

Then, typically, she was fine when we got to the vet!! well, lets hope it's going to ok, anyway.

Love you Curlykins xx

So relieved that she is OK. One reason that rats with PT can get poor coats is that many of them become unable to eat solid food, especially big things like lab blocks. With a group of rats it can be hard to notice when one rat stops eating. Often they will grab a treat as usual but stash it instead of eating it.

With what you were saying I was really thinking neuro. I'm glad your vet seems to know whats up. Good luck tomorrow... hopefully its something she will recover from quickly.

PT in dogs can cause spotty hair loss so that could be why the vet thinks that. In ferrets, spotty hair loss can mean adrenal gland issues.
Good thing she's getting treatment... wishing your girl many more months with you.

Hi again guys - we're now certain it was just a fall. She has shown NO signs at all since of anything neuro/PT

Thanks so much for all your help

We think she must have just badly winded herself
