I was just talking to a pet sitter who told me about a wild rat in NB that a girl had found as a baby and raised. Rattie is doing well, very well socialized and they are quite bonded.

In the course of yhe conversation she mentioned that the girl had been told by a vet to never mix the wild rat with domestic rats because it would not have ever been exposed to myco and would not have any resistance to it.

Anyone know anything about this?

I'm assuming slightly true. (Presuming the vet is correct that wild cats do not have mycoplasma, which I do not know.)

It would be the same as bringing in myco free lab rats (these are not all lab rats, just certain strains) into contact with regular pet rats.

Some will do okay and carry it normally-- others won't be able to handle the mycoplasma and get very ill/pass away.

:yeah:
That is my understanding as well.
But then take Hobo... a very wild rat, chose to hook up with Rennie a pet rat and now he's living with Vanessa and her rats and hasn't been sick. As far as I know, he's still alive while all his kids are gone and Rennie too.
