I think my rat is going through puberty because he's getting very aggressive when i take him out after just having played with my other male rat.

He's getting pouffy a LOT more now, for things he never used to get pouffy for before, and he just bit me when i took him out of his cage after putting my other rat back.

The only other time he has ever bit me was when i broke up a fight between the two.

This is worrying me a lot.

It also shows me that i really need to get him neutered as soon as possible. :(

Meet Pika my crazy girl who went totally ape crazy on my daughters hand because well my daughter could not learn to not touch her after holding edgar, eli and Bart. Who were the newest rats in our house at the time.

After proper intros she lived with those boys so all hope is not lost from one action there can be hope.

There is a reason we do intros with rats. Males especially. Rats run off their noses more than their eyes. They smell everything they learn smell before sight. Rats have to adapt to another rats smell, if they do not recognize the smell then they go into two modes fight or flight. Most males will fight it is what they do. You smelling like a rat that is unfamiliar to them will trigger bites because a another rats smell is in their area.

He sounds like he needs a neuter I dont do any bites to me without them loosing their testicles. You bite me once, they are mine. To have males can be difficult especially during this all hormone stages. Boys will either be amazing sweet and accepting or the devil with a tail.

:yeah:

I agree, a bite means off with their gonads.
But we must remember, that a rat who is biting, is a very stressed out rat, not able to deal with his hormones. A neuter will help him overcome these feelings. It's really not his fault that he is reacting badly to those smells or even to having someone in his cage. These days, rats are so badly and overly bred, we can't expect the best out of them without some help... and neuter will do that.

ahahhaha!!!! that's very true.

also, louis is very used to maurice's smell. or else he should be because he has been living next door to him for the past 2 months.

I shall get him neutered, though, because i can't take this anymore.
