Well I have no idea what to do here....

We started with 3 Brothers that we adopted (Riddick, Spinelli and Ratt-E), and all was well with the universe. We added a baby Rat @ 8 weeks old (Alcazar), had nice intros, everything was great. Then our little Rat Baby became a Rat Teenager, and all hell broke loose.

Riddick, the resident Alpha, went Hannibal Lecter on him, causing many wounds. After some discussion on these forums, my Husband and I decided to split the colony, rather then have Riddick snipped.

We bought another cage (which sits right on top our old one), and we moved Alcazar and Ratt-E (who has to be the most ezgoing Rat in the world; I want to drug test him for Pot usage) to the new cage, and we added yet another bundle of fur, 8 week old Badger, to form Colony B. Riddick and Spinelli made up Colony A. Our intention was to move Ratt-E back to colony A after Badger was old enough to move from the baby cage, as we didnt want Alcazar to be alone till then.

Well that day came and went, and Badger loves being in the big cage. Sadly, Ratt-E was not welcomed warmly by el capitan Riddick when we tried to re-introduce him to Colony A. After browsing some threads on this forum, we decided we needed to re-introduce him on neutral ground, as if he were brand new. As an aside, it really appeared to us that Ratt-E's feelings were hurt when Riddick attacked him. Those 3 were together for a full year, and he had only been in the Colony B cage for 72 hours. :cry3:

So, while we are busy worrying about re-introducing Ratt-E back to Colony A, not more than 10 minutes ago, Riddick went all 'medieval' on Spinelli, eventhough they had been cuddling not more than an hour ago.

So at this point, he has assaulted not only the Teenager, but both brothers, again with whom he has lived with for over a year.

So is our only option to get him snipped? Do they make Valium for Rats?

HELP! :gaah:

Unfortunately it seems someone has hormonal issues which he can no longer control. It really is the kindest thing to help him with his hormones and get a neuter done. Poor baby must be a little confused about whats going on with his own body.

Good luck

Poor poor Riddick, living up to his name? I would say he needs to get snipped asap. The smells of the nearby new boys are just making him go into bully mode and he really can't help it. A neuter will help him regain his composure and become a loving rat again.

Well one thing my hubby and I are wondering is if maybe we are over reacting? I mean when the Teenager got beat-on, there was blood and fur galore. But Riddick hasn't drawn blood from either of his brothers. Maybe they are just having a :stickpoke: and we are reading too much into it?

Do male rats go 'furry balls of fury' normally?

No, they don't.
He really needs a neuter from a vet experienced at doing sucessful rat neuters.
Due to poor breeding boys often have hormone levels that ae much too high.
Many of us have happy neutered boys.
He will feel much better once his hormones stop making him bounce off the walls.

Like SQ said, boys don't do this. It starts small and can escalate. The fact that he's now going after his long time cage buddy is telling you that he just can't handle the stress of the new smells. It will continue to you getting bit on a regular basis. It's really not his fault. It's how he was bred.
