Hey guys,

So I think my rats may have mites, they are itching a heck of a lot!
I read on here that you could get Revolution, I think it was called, for kittens to put on them?
Is this a spray or a liquid or what? I can't remember.
Also, how much would I put on them? (they are 2-4 months old)

Thanks a lot guys!

ps- I don't really have the money to go in for a check up at the vet's that'll cost $50 for just the check-up and then have the vet tell me they're fine. (cause apparently sometimes the mites can't be seen?)

Some order revo from here: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... CatId=9567
but I don't believe they have the Kitten version. If I remember correctly, some will use Adult Cat revo..but I'm not sure how the dosage would differ.
Either way, it's quite hard to OD on... but still a good thing to know!

You can purchase a pack of 3 (kitten version) from here: http://www.canadavet.com/Revolution-for ... 47C90.aspx
but I've never personally dealt with this company nor have heard of others who have.

Check for telltale scabs around the chin, shoulder blades, and neck. And yeah, a vet might not even be able to say with 100% certainty that they are indeed mites - if a vet ever says that they're going to perform a skin scrape to figure it out, decline it. It hurts and costs you more money. :/ My old vet stuck a piece of tape to my rats skin and stuck it under the microscope for free to see if he saw anything. Either way, they would need treatment.

Here's a link about Revolution that you might wanna give a read. http://ratguide.com/meds/anti-infective ... lution.php

You could always ask around and see if any of your friends parents use Revo on their cats and could toss you a tube for some money.

Thanks guyss, I'll definitely take a look at those links!
I have a cat, but we use advantage on him, but I don't think that'd be good on zee ratties.
I think I might make an appointment for my rats and see if I can get them all in one appointment so it'd only be $50 for all three of them (instead of seperately, because that'd be a little ridiculous).

I hope so! If they tried to charge me $50 per rat I'd be out of there in half a second!
Do you know the average price of Revolution?

It's going to depend where you live.. I think I spent $15 for two tubes.
:)

In Ontario my bill from the vet was $17 per tube. o:

I could be wrong.. it's been a while.. it may have been $15 per tube.

The prices can be surprisingly different, even if you were in the same city.

My vet was cool about this, she says since I have my rats/dog/cat on file, I just walk in and ask for tubes. I buy Advantage for the dog and cat this way as well. I have to buy Revo soon, so I'm curious what they will charge for it.

Neither ships to Canada. That blows, they have G'kars meds for a 1/3 of what I pay at the local pharmacy :(

Me too! And I'm going to see how much my vet will charge to spay rats because I want to get my girls done, but that's another topic! ^_^

So I still haven't gone in to the vet to get zee ratties checked for mites. I really haven't had time :'(
They don't seem to have any scabs, and they don't itch constantly (if it is mites, it doesn't seem too extreme yet).
One reason I'm warry of going in for a check-up with my rats is that it's $50 just for the appointment, not including any testing or meds or anything they might need!!!!
Have any of you guys experienced where the vet was willing to lower the appointment price for your rats? I'm wondering because rats seem to have multiple health problems throughout their lives so having to pay $50 to just go for the appointment just doesn't seem practical to me! Gah. I dunno what to do. >_<
