Yesterday I noticed that Milo has a pretty big lump on his chin. I'm not sure how long it's been there as I haven't been paying much attention to that group in the last few days since Charlie was sick and passed away. His mouth/face was a bit swollen last night, but today it's not so swollen anymore, but the hard lump is still there. Any idea what this could be? I have Baytril here... would antibiotics and children's ibuprofen do the trick or should I bring him to the vet? Is it something urgent? My vet here isn't really knowledgeable about rats, so if he needs surgery, I wouldn't exactly trust her...

I'd just like some input to have and idea of what it would be and if he would need surgery or not. I'm going to Freddy Wednesday.. so if Dr. Scott does surgeries on Thursdays... I could make him an appointment for that day.

It seems to be more on his right side and his teeth are fine. I was scared he'd have a tooth abscess.

(pictures coming soon)

Any help is appreciated!

These pictures are from last night. I can take some today if you guys would like.

He was quite swollen.. it was soft to the touch and it went down today.. but he still has a hard lump on his chin.. which is more to his right side.

In this picture, you can see how swollen it was

I could take him to the vet here on Monday and then if she thinks he needs surgery, I could try to get him in with Dr. Scott in Fredericton for Thursday?
Should I start him on antibiotics for the weekend, or is that useless?

Lumps on the face are frightening.
Personally, I would start antibiotics now (suggest baytril + clavamox) in case of infection and take him to a vet next week.
Lumps on the face and neck need to be see by a vet asap, imo
Could be several things ... most extremely serious

I doubt he got into anything as he was unfortunately in his cage most of the time for the past days (until a couple of days ago). I don't see any exterior injury, but my girlfriend pointed out that maybe the cat got to him through the bars at night... I just don't see any other injuries on him.

Should I bring him to Freddy and get him an appointment Wednesday late afternoon or Thursday morning, or should try to get him an appointment here on Monday or Tuesday?
The vet here refuses to prescribe Baytril and another antibiotic together as she keeps saying that they will counter-interact with each other, so I wouldn't be getting anywhere with her. I usually have to trick her into giving me Doxy or Clavamox along, assuring her I wont use them together.
But it wont always work. :/

I guess I should keep a close eye on it.. and if the situation doesn't worsen by Monday, I could bring him to Freddy for an appointment there? I'll take a picture of it tonight, to show you guys.

He's going to Dr Scott this Thursday and the lump has gotten bigger... :(

I'm thinking it's a tumor... looks like he's going to have to stay at my mom's place if Dr. Scott says it's a tumor and he needs surgery.... seeing as he most likely wont be able to do it Friday. I'm hoping he'd be able to do it next week and I'd pick up Milo next weekend. :/

His teeth look fine. :S
Should I be seeing anything?

It got really big today. :(

Tomorrow! I'm really hoping that whatever it is will be easily removed.

Toby will be visiting Fredericton with him so he wont be alone.

They have molars in the back of their mouth not only the two in front. I think most happen with those molars along with humans who molars are usually what becomes infected....

Hi, sorry I didn't update you guys after the vet visit. It turns out it was just a huge abscess! Even the vet was surprised at how big it was. It didn't smell before but it did on the day of the appointment and to our luck, it was ready to bust and the vet had to deal with the yucky puss! lol

He is now on Clavamox to fight off any infection. :)

The vet didn't look in his mouth, so I guess we wont know if it was a tooth abscess, but the Clavamox will hopefully heal up any injury in his mouth.
