Mikey was in awful shape the week before I got back from holidays. He probably has PT, and he was unable to eat by himself. SQ took him to the vet and started him on Dex, which I finished once I got home. He was a little better but could not move around much, and his appetite was poor. It was pitiful to see him try to clean himself and be unable.
I decided to start him on Bromo, but on 1/4 the normal dose (after my experience with severe taste aversion with Cadillac and Caramel on full dose). He tolerated it well, and improved enough so that I changed my mind about taking him in to be pts. His appetite came back. He still could not move well, and his left side was very weak as if he had had a stroke. I then started Pred and the next day upped the Bromo to half dose.
He is now moving faster and is able to stay upright. He is more able to eat, also. He will never be his old self, but I am no longer feeling guilty for keeping him alive. He is enthusiastic about food, and tonight I found him out chewing on a wooden toy instead of just hiding in a box or hammock. I will gradually take him up to the full dose of Bromo.
