Hi all well as you know I got this med from the vet (chlor palm 250) for Monkey after his neuter. I am wondering it is said to treat mycoplasma also. Well you know Fancy she was pretty sick and we believe she may have always had mycoplasma along with other problems. And now think it spread to the other rats :panic: so how would i go about giving this med to my others? the bottle was new so we should have lots to go around and not waste it(monkey only needs to take 0.5cc for 5 days 2xday). im just not to great at how much per grams/weight and what not if maybe you guys can help me if i weigh them and all and how many days/times i should be able to give them it? also first id like to be sure it is safe to do as i can not afford to bring 7 rats to the vet right at this moment.

i will also call my vet and see what they say about this also if it safe and what not.

thanks for any help anyone gives me.

If the others are about the same size as Monkey, they could have the same dose. If there is a big size difference, weigh them all and use this formula:

Rat's weight divided by Monkey's weight multiplied by 0.5 cc
(e.g. if you have a rat that weighs 400 grams, and if Monkey weighed 200 grams, then you would give the 400-gram rat 400/200 * 0.5cc = 1.0 cc)

Give it to them twice a day.

Chlorpalm is supposed to be good for treating Myco, but I've read that the treatment should be at least three weeks.

It's best if you check with your vet first, though, to be sure.

Mycoplasmosis is actually IN all our pet rats, it's a part of them, so not really "catchable". There are different strains but usually all the rats from one area have the same strain so it's nothing to worry about.
Myco flareups are individual to the rat and their immune system, since Myco attacks the immune system constantly, and eventually the immune system weakens and lets in a secondary infection (URI, etc). I find that some rats have weaker immune systems and will have flareups more often. Older rats especially as their immune system starts to wear down at around 18 months of age, although those rats that have "never been sick" have much stronger immune systems, although they have Myco and are still being attacked by it.

IF your other rats show no symptoms of illness, you shouldn't medicate them at all, as this can cause a resistance so the meds don't work well when you really need them to.

Kisses to Monkey. :)
