Hey everyone,

I have just received a rat from a girl who couldn't take care of her many rats. Her store-bought rat had given birth to 15 rats.

When I got the rat girl, she was scared of coming out of the box, therefore I put two of my youngest rats in with her and it went very well. I picked her up to caress her and realised, that her fur is filled with eggs.

I am afraid, that my other rats too have lice now. I do keep them apart. She is so little, scared and all alone. The girl who gave her to me, says it's my responsibility now. I already told her of the lice problem 15 min. after receiving it and how it spreads to all the other rats. She says she can't effort her rats' treatment and gives away her rats to families with healthy rats. Poor rats.

I have had this problem before, I went to the vet and got some Stronghold for kittens. It worked well. However, I had to pay 90 usd. for the examination of the rat and 43 usd for the medicin, which is absurd!I simply can't afford that but will if I have to. :(

I was wondering if anyone here knows, how to get rid of her lice in a more affordable way? I really hope there is a way. :(

For some reason I thought Stronghold in the UK was over the counter? I just checked and it seems you need a prescription. You could try Bearphar's Spot On (Ivermectin treatment to be used once a week for 3 weeks). You might need to go over the proper instructions with a UK member, as I remember discovering that their instructions were wrong, unless someone changed it finally.

Thank you so much! You can't even imagine how happy I am, maybe I can even convince that girl to treat her rats too. :joy:
