It looks like I have a couple babies in my foster litter with megacolon. So far the symptom is funny poos (from large soft stools to 'stuck' poo in the rectum) but I'm afraid that it's only a matter of time before they start bloating up. So... when is it the right time to let go? When they still have some quality of life but are clearly sick? When there are signs of pain? Earlier? They're vibrant and playful babies right now... when does that end?

i'm so sorry to hear that.

when my boys went to lynds they were 4 weeks old. 2 developed mc. she had one of they boys pts not long after (within a week or 2). the other mc boy was mild enough for her to care for him and still leads a happy life. as far as the last update i've gotten, he's still doing really good. lynds is of course very dedicated to their/his special needs and i'm so glad the 2 boys are in her care. (one who doesn't have mc)

maybe send her a pm for advice?

i'm not sure what to tell you. and i'm sure you'll do what's best for them :hugs:

The time to let go is when they bloat up, and are in pain hun... it happens SO fast, so keep a REAL close eye on them...
A great diet to try for MC rats is the 'Woody's Diet' Google it, it's wonderful, expensive, but woirth it!
I would GLADLY share any and all info if you should need it, just drop me a PM!

Toot's MC is minimal, and Puddles isn't behaving lately, and he's starting to bloat, with Senekot, Woody Diet, tummy, and rectal rubs, and NOW the added enemas....
It's been one hell of rollercoaster ride with these 2 boys, but I contuinue to hang onto the handle bars, and grin and bare it!
