I have had bad experiences with mammory tumors... I found one on Moka 2 weeks ago and I have been trying hard to decide what to do! She is 2 years old and full of pizzazz so I want to get it off of her asap. However, the surgery will cost me 250-300 dollars. I really don't have that kind of money at all are there cheaper ways to get vet care for rats. I have had no problem taking them for checkups but this is much more than I can put aside :(
If anyone has any suggestions I will be very pleased to hear them <3

Have you tried getting a quote from another vet? You may be able to call around, if there are other rat vets in your area, and get a very basic estimate for that sort of surgery. Maybe there is someone willing to perform it for less.

As lilspaz has posted, Dr. G. at Mitchell Animal Hospital in Kitchener (on Gage) has done all of my tumour removals. He has always handled my girls gently and has been just plain wonderful.
I would highly recommend him and it will cost you a whole lot less then what you were quoted :) (although this could change depending on the size of the tumour, obviously larger may be more difficult and harder to remove causing the surgery to cost a bit more)

Good luck!
