When ever i pick up Loki he does this huffing noise, i didn't think much of it because jo told me rats make the noise to be macho. I put him and the other ratties out on the couch while i cleaned the cage.

I went to the couch, and stated chasing the babies with my hands and Loki came to me wanting to play too, he was making the grunty huffy noise again, i picked him up and listed to his chest and his little heart was racing.

they all went back in to the cage, he isn't making the heavy breathing noise now. He doesn't have any signs of infection, like red around the eyes or sneezing.

I really hope he is just mocho and not sick. let me know what you guys think.

The grunting is so low that you wouldn't hear it unless he's right close to you. So if you hear it from far then I'd be concerned and keep an eye on it.

Does it look like he's got laboured breathing? I'd bring him to the vet for a full checkup.
Treating with Baytril when the rat is not really sick is not good at all... you'll make him resistant to the Baytril.
