Hi,
We have a rat for which we detected a lump in the neck area (under, a little to the left). It doesn't seem to bother him and doesn't seem to hurt when we touch it. Aside from that he is in very good health. The rat is a little over a year old. The first tought of course is some sort of tumor. Could it be something else?

Thanks

Is it attached or does it seem movable? Is it discolored at all? Size? How quickly did it show up?

There's a possibility it could be an abscess so starting warm compresses won't hurt it but will help if it's an abscess.

The lump is not movable and there is no discoloration. It showed up about a week ago but has been growing ever since. It is now noticible just by looking at it (one big round lump in the throath area).
The rat has never been sick up to now, and is still not showing any sign of sickness aside from the noticeable lump.

Two of my boys have had this. It's seems best to take them to a vet to see what their opinion is. The one they were abcesses which are controlled by clavamox the other just had it removed since it was a mammory cyst that was getting in his way of jumping.

I would just take him to get it checked out and you also won't have to worry about it any longer.
