Hi Everyone I have some very bad news my rat went missing today and I cant find her.
I don't know how long shes been missing and i am really sad and scared because she never leaves and I have Dogs and Cats.
I don't think my cats got her because they usually leave a mess when they kill a rodent and I am pretty sure my dogs never got her because they were downstairs all day.
My worry is that she lives outside in the hall beside my bedroom (upstairs) so my worry is that she could be anywhere I am pretty sure shes upstairs but she could be anywhere upstairs there's no way for her to get into the wall or anything but she can get under doors I am hoping shes just hiding away but how do I find her I have had her since March so shes totally bonded to me.
But I miss her and want to find her any suggestions???
PLEASE READ AND COMMENT ITS VERY IMPORTANT :cry4: :cry4: :( :(

leave a cage that she can have access to. Put food and water in it. Then she may seek comfort in that cage. I would try to keep the dogs away or locked up from there so there isnt a worry.

Lock up all cats and dogs, etc

Put her cage down where she can get access to it ... if she has friends in the cage put a shelter or box with soft bedding near the cage.
Put yummy food that is soft so can not be carried away in the small box (ie a shoe box with a hole in it.
If she was alone in the cage, put it down and leave it open so she can go home, hopefully eat the yummy food and curl up in her nest/hammock for a nap.

Put flour on the floor around the cage/box so you will be able to see any foot prints.
Put down water as well.

Hopefully she will eat and then curl up in the box for a nap.

Wishing you luck. It is very frightening to have a rat get loose. The above suggestions are excellent. If you don't get results, maybe you could borrow or rent a Havaheart trap and bait it with dry oatmeal. Most of those have mesh, to which you can attach a water bottle. I once used one to catch an escaped young ratty girl, but she took a day and a half to come back.

So I should not give up hope even though shes been missing for a day.
I am really scared and none of the above suggestions worked and I have to sleep soon.
I really hope she was not eaten :(

I wouldn't give up hope. I'd close all the doors in your house (bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.). But make sure you have food, water and a box to hide in for each room. Block the bottoms of doors off so she can't get in/out. Then I'd start looking in every room. Look under everything, in everything (drawers, baskets, hampers, shoes, clothes, bed sheets, cabinets, cupboards). When you've completely gone through a room, move to the next. I'd put out scrambled egg too. It has a really strong smell and might draw her out. I've lose my Juniper about 5 times because she use to be an escape artist. She was always hiding in a bin of either laundry or stuffed animals, once she was under the bed. I'd still keep the cats and dogs locked up somewhere else. You would probably see blood though, if she was eaten. They can also hide in couches so look for any holes, especially under the cushions that might lead to the back. They can also go through heat vents or into walls if there is a hole in the wall. Try putting food everywhere. You can put flour around the food so that you will be able to see if she walked through it. Or count how much food, like 3 cheerios/egg pieces/carrots/etc.

Thank You EVERYONE who helped me I really appreciate it a lot :)
Good News I found my naughty little Flinky she was in my brothers room under his bed.
I am extremely happy that I found her but also I am really mad at my little brat.
I dunno if this is a good thing or not but i always give my girls a bowl of fruits and veggies at night so even after she ran away I still gave her a treat.
I GUESS THERE'S A HAPPY ENDING TO THIS STORY :) <3

I feel your pain. When I first got my girls my little PEW ran off, couldn't find her at all until I unpacked a cushion from my shopping which felt a bit heavier than normal. Little pooface had made a nice den in my new cushion.

Oh, great news you found your girlie!
And yes, it is OK to give her a treat after you catch her. In fact, you want to spoil her after you catch her. That way it is NICE to be caught, and she will want to be caught if she's getting treats. You could try training your rats by getting some treats and shake the container, then feed treat. Repeat this each day, several times. Soon they will come running to the sound of the shaking treats. :)

Remember where you found her, if she gets out again she will tend to go back to the same spots, and they don't usually go to far from there scented areas.
