I was the proud owner of 4 rats, Basil, Thief and the brothers Sneezers and Shadow . After two long battles Basil and Thief were PTS. And most recently the big shock, Shadow died suddenly, found him cold in the cage 2 weeks ago, real shock he had never even been to the vet he was so happy and well.

So upsetting, so now Sneezers is all on his own, and is depressed. I feel so
Bad for him, I dont know what to do,it's unfair to have him on his own yet I don't want to own anymore rats as the life exceptancy and health issues are to much for me.

I love him dearly and would like some advice on what I
Can do to lift his spirits or give him something to keep him occupied while I'm asleep.

Thank you

That's a possibility, I get so attached though I would be upset when I give the foster back, I'd be upset that they'd miss me.

he's only 20 months old which I consider middle-aged not old...you could easily have another 10 months with him. Too bad you cannot adopt a single older boy for him.

See I'd like to but I've tried intros with older males and did everything by the letter and they never turned out well , always to violent or aggressive for my boys. Sighs

I had a neutered boy who just MELTED for a trio of girls (who were un-neutered). He was very submissive too, and was wilting when his longtime cage-brother passed. He really just needed a teeny girl a quarter his size to plant her paws on his head to tell him she was the leader.

If Smeezers is neutered, a spayed or intact female would work well. (Spaying has many health benefits for females but since your male is neutered, she can't get pregnant so it's not necessary.) Females are generally easier to introduce to each other but when it's mixed sex intros, it's even easier.

Ha ha, don't worry. Just keep checking out the postings page- someone is always copying ads from other places about ratties in need. :)

You could also place an ad on craigslist or petfinder.

Thank you for wanting to rescue a little baby!

I got two baby females today from a breeder. :) I won't rush any intro but showed sneezers the girls and they all licked each other zero sign of aggression.
