I know that a lone male in a cage full of girls usually works splendidly (especially when one or both genders are fixed ). But does it work the other way around?

Since my dear Alice passed a month ago, my spayed girl Sophie has been living with three other neutered males. And well, she seems a bit ... cranky ever since. By cranky, I mean really vocal - she's "squalling" a lot more often when interacting with the boys, and her squeaks can get rather ... pissy sounding during one-on-one time with her.

My rescue is working with another hoarding case, so I was hoping to adopt a pair of young brothers for my other "colony" since Missy isn't doing too well, and her buddy Ferris' poor scared psyche isn't going to mesh well with the other group. But maybe I should think about adopting another girl to keep Sophie company?

I've seen of plenty lone girls with a group of boys and be perfectly happy. Currently my Sansa although not living alone with boys, still is only very vocal with the boys but the funny thing is, she goes to them and becomes vocal. I don't necessarily think the vocalization might entirely be a negative thing. Who's to know she's not actually being encouraging instead of protesting? lol
