My poor poor Lily! I thought her skin mites had cleared up but alas-they have not. So on the way home from work I stopped and picked up some ivermectin horse dewormer at Tractor Supply but I am nervous to use it-has anyone used this particular brand? I know the dosing is the amount the size of a grain of rice once a week for three weeks, I just want to be sure it isn't going to harm my sweetypie!

I've used it on my guinea pigs before, with no issues whatsoever. I haven't used it on my rats yet, but there were no problems with my pigs, so I'm assuming as long as you don't give too much, it will be fine.

Edit: just saw the image of the product, I haven't used that particular brand, but I've used a different brand with the same ingredients. So technically it's the same thing.

I didn't use that brand on my rats but I have used Ivermectin paste without any problems in the past.

I should warn you that most of your rats won't like the taste. I got past that by cooking a bunch of macaroni and then I took a toothpick and stuck the grain of paste inside a noodle. Each rat got one spiked noodle - it worked out well, they all gobbled up their noodle as a treat!

Can't cooked pasta give them a tummy ache? I am planning on mixing it with a little gob of apple sauce-Lily loves apple sauce! One more question-the other girls have no signs of mites but should I treat them anyway? They are still techniqually babies.....I swear rats need to come with a handbook! :grabhair:

If you are treating for mites, they all need to be treated. If they are older than 6 weeks, then it's quite safe.
I've never heard of pasta causing tummy aches, it's a real favorite with the rats.

always remember that the piece of ivermectin paste is only as big as an UNCOOKED grain of rice for an adult rat, and as Jo said, treat ALL your rats otherwise they will just reinfect the others.

Pasta is yummy...causes no tummy problems here. :D
