we have one rat who, for as long as she's been alive, has squeaked whenever we pet her, or pick her up. It's not an aggressive squeak, nor does it sound like she is in any distress, she's more like a little squeak toy who gives us a little *squeak squeak* when we touch her, but generally "ignores" the actual touching or handling and just behaves like any other rat we have.

Just curious, it's extremely cute, but I'd like to know if this is normal behavior?

As long as it is squeaking, and not a "monkey" woop woop, or wheezy noise, then it is fine- at least I think. :)

If it does sound breathing related, it could be a mild upper respiratory infection.
