I went to the vet today, to take care of Dazzle's abscess and to get Tilley's sutures removes. So, I discussed spaying my two newest when they turn three months (the minimum age she's comfortable with). She mentioned that every other Saturday she has people from Pfizer in that help her with some special intubation technique, and she'd prefer to use that on my girls. So, I'm not really sure how intubation fits into the whole surgery thing. I've looked at a surgery video, and as far as I can tell, it's just a mask over there face, no tubes. Are there normally tubes? What benefit do they have? I believe my vet that it's better that she'll have these people to do this intubation, I just had so many things going on I didn't really think to ask more about it! So any info about intubating would help me, thanks :)

Ok thanks. Do you know why? I guess my vet only does it when these people are there to help with doing it, it wasn't done for any of my past surgeries.

My vet does not use anything like that either.
Why use it when it isn't needed. It sounds very invasive and like it would leave the rsttie with a sore throat, etc.

My vet doesn't use intubation in private practice either because he does not feel he is experienced enough with it but he says it is safer because there is more control over how much anesthesia is administered.

Thank you, I knew there had to be some kind of benefit to it!

Yeah I read up on it and it can be very dangerous if you're not incredibly well trained in it and comfortable with the procedure. My vet doesn't do it herself, so for most surgeries she doesn't, but she has people from Pfizer that are very experienced come to do it twice a month and thought I might want to choose one of those days.
