My roomies have a cat and a dog, and they normally stay away from the rats, because I don't want the rats to get hurt.
I have however let the dog and cat check out ron, and i've let ron check them out, just in case something happens, I don't want the rats to be a surprise to the other animals.
Ron likes both the dog and the cat, and will try to play with them (its really cute) and he and Pucca (the dog, will play this chase game when ron's in the cage, Puca will run up to it, and stop, play bow, and run runs up the side of the cage, then puca sniffs him, runs off, and then ron runs in his house for a sec, waits for puca to come back, and they do it again. Also, Ron will try to grab puca sometimes when she is sniffing him.
When The cat was introduced (she's only about 4 months) Ron would run under her, then run back to me, sit in my lap, and flick his tail, and she would bat at him, then he'd run around in a circle, around the cat (who was mostly just confused) and run back underneath her, and back to me.

The babies however, are very nervous around the other animals. They are still pretty young, and I'm wondering if I should try to get them more comfortable with the other animals, or if its too stressful on them. I am not expecting them to ever want to be best friends like Ron was, but I don't want them to be scared if for some reason the cat shows up one day in my room and no one is home. And with the cat, I don't want the rats to be to exciting if she does one day end up alone with them.

Ron was displaying stress and being protective of his cage. I wouldn't allow the dog around Ron anymore.

Really, dogs and cats should never ever be allowed to play with rats. It takes one mistake and the rat is dead.
But to allow the dog and cats around the cage while supervised is ok so long as the rats don't become stressed. Rushing the bars is stress.

thanks so much for the info jo. I had no clue, he didn't look stressed, he looked like he was having fun, and trying to pull puca in with him. I thought he would have puffed out and hid if he was stressed. but that does make sense.

Be really careful, because Ron trying to pull the dog in could be dangerous. My cat made that mistake, once. She got up on her hind legs to look into the cage at Alphonse and he grabbed her and pulled her close enough to give her a good bite on the face. It was unfortunate, but now Luna also knows to stay away from their cage(even if they are in the CN, now, and couldnt even dream of doing that).
