Hi there.. I currently have 3 groups of boys. by groups, I mean 3 cages.

Fry and Bender. My oldest rats.
Zap and Kiff. My newest boys.
And then poor Wernstrom. The middle child who has bit us badly!

Last week I had tried an intro with Fry, Bender and Wernstrom. There was calm for a while and then a blood bath! (Ok, not that bad. But there was blood.. D: ) So we housed tom separately again and within the week I drove 2 hours East to pick up Zap and Kiff from someone who wanted them to go to a good home. :) Well, I'm thinking it's going to be intro time again. :I I'm a bit worrisome!

Last time we did the intro in the evening when the boys were most awake. And we did it in the tub.. Everything was fine and everyone was nomming cheerios and then all Hell broke loose. They fought and it seemed to go terribly. So we separated them. I've since then spoke with people who do intros.. And I've gotten a few suggestions. I would like to know if they are good or bad.

One seems to be common. Filling the tub with water for a distraction.. Some suggested an island in the tub to force them to share.

Another I have read was using a pet carrier. Putting them inside. And going somewhere.. The event of leaving the house and going someplace will 'bond' them? Seems far fetched. But I thought I'd ask.

Other than that.. I have no ideas. I just don't want to boys to bleed. :/

I'll keep updating here as I do intros. maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. D:

I'll move this over to behaviour so it doesn't get lost in this section.

First of all, try not to end any intro on a bad note. If they fight, separate, wait about 10 to 15 minutes keeping them separate then end.
The water and pet carrier is a good idea but I wouldn't start with that yet.
I like to use a table top, one that the rats have never been on. Don't have any toys or anything on the table except for a bowl of something yummy. See how that goes.
