Somehow I always run into some kind of trouble with water bottle solutions..

Either:
* they are loud
* they don´t work
* they are very hard/impossible to clean
* one of several rats can´t figure them out, or the latest:

They chew them..

I have tried most kinds of water bottles by now..
Mostly they don´t work, or are very noisy.. The ones that does work, and aren´t noisy, at least one rat can´t figure them out at all(seriously! :gaah: ), and/or they are impossible to clean properly..
Now I have these, but they chew the "bowl" thing on them :emb:

Regular water bowls on ground level are filled with so much dirt/bedding etc that it´s ridiculous..

So I need ideas for one(or both of this solutions:

1. Where/how to get one of these or similar(with the metal cup, and preferably a lot smaller size) to Norway http://www.zooplus.dk/shop/smaadyr/bur_ ... mat/187051

2. How I can hang a water bowl a bit high(just enough that they can´t push bedding etc into the bowl), and still make it easy to reach for old rats(all are doing fine as of now, but they are getting older).

:help:

This is a tough one.
For me, I keep a water bottle and a bowl in the cage. Each day I clean out the bowl and add fresh water. If the water bottle stops working, then at least I have the bowl. If the bowl gets full of junk or is emptied, then at least I have a bottle.
I'm not much help I'm afraid. One of us has to come up with a great invention for watering our rats.

Keep your eyes out for metal bowls that will hang or attach to the side of a cage.
Our feed n needs store sells them.
(Edit: I put small plastic bowls inside the metal bowls)

I have several water bottles and one to three water dishes in each cage.
The water bowls need to be changed once or twice a day :(

If they made the bird ones in metal, it would be perfect..
It´s silent, easy to clean and they all understand it
I have to have the cage in my room and are a ridiculously light sleeper, so I need something silent..
I would love to have a bowl, but I´d need it to be a bit over floor level to be clean(+ I have the edge around the cage, so you can´t hang things all the way down anyway)
So If I could just find out a way how to make something so they can reach it easily, but not put bedding etc in it, that would be great.. My oldest is 2 years in December..

I actually hate the metal ones(probably because they lead heat way too well :wallbang: ), but we have several ones in plastic that should do the trick.. They only like certain types of plastic apparently
I was thinking these.. They are hard and rather durable plastic, so it´s unlikely mine will chew it.. The bottles are rather thin plastic..

I have one that I think is similar to those and is dark green, and it's never been chewed.

Sounds good.. Mine have never chewed a water bottle except these last ones.. And then it´s just the bowl thing..

I think walmart sells those. They are really big too! although they wouldn't be very convenient to detach from the cage and change the water out several times a day

I find them rather easy to detach, since you just twist the bowl so it comes loose(at least the ones we have over here).. We don't have walmart tho

LOL

Yeah, the bowl twists out of the base that attaches to the sides of the cage.

Sorry, I always forget to look at locations. lol I keep forgetting that this is the internet and not the post office :giggle:

Do you think that some sort of ramp would do the trick? Do you. Think it would be enough to keep them from stuffing everything in the bowls? They do not have fleece scraps in the cage, so that won't be a problem. but they sometimes have full kleenex boxes.

This is the only idea I have. If it's a good idea, please say so! And if you have any ideas to how I should do it, that would be great!

They'll still find a way to fill the water bowl with tissue. Mine have a toilet paper roll in their cage and no matter where I hang it, it ends up in the water dish. lol
They also have a water bottle though.

I was afraid of that.. They don't get it often tho, so I think I can live with it.. Problem is the "putting all the dirty bedding we can find in the bowl" part :giggle:
