:gaah:  Snickers got me today, but it was my fault for the most part. I was trying to get puff ball back into the cage and of course he wanted nothing to do with being picked up, but I kept trying and he kept screaming and nipping until he decided enough was enough and got my pointer finger on my left hand - at least my hands match now. I made the mistake this time though of pull my hand away as he had a hold of it so his razor sharp teeth left about a one inch laceration on the bottom of my finger..... I'm still not sure I shouldn't of that it stitched - pretty deep and long. The bite on top though isn't as bad as the one Oliver gave me, but  it, that hand has to be in wedding pictures in four weeks!!! I swear I'm going to give this boy a neuter myself - he better hope someone hides the scissors!!

Aww, sorry. xD

If you go to get it stitched, don't say it was a rat bite. The doctors and nurses will freak and act as though you have some insane bacteria now. :/

They weren't too bad when the other one I got was infected and I had to go to the er, but yea, a little concerned until I said it was a pet.

Oh my... Your hubby and yourself are going to be crowned King and Queen of Rattie Bites.
Keep a towel nearby all the time, scoop them with a towel, it will save your digits!

The only time I got truly bitten was the same in that I had plenty of warning, but kept ignoring it. Don't you hate it when we don't listen to ourselves!

My doctor won't close an animal bite. She says it's better to leave it opened and clean.

That's good to know. So far (knock wood) I've never had to go to the ER with a bite, but I will keep that in mind.

Don't know if they would have, but last time I had to soak it twice a day in warm water. Last time it did get infected right away though. This one doesn't look to bad yet, but does hurt. Poor Snickers it was almost like he knew he did something bad cause he just went and laid down - not a typical Snickers move. Like I said, I push it and I shouldn't have so I cannot totally blame the creeper!!!

Both we're my fault and I take the blame. Never thought of the towel thing - have oven mitts, but cannot grab him well enough. The fiance on the other hand just asks for it always waving his finger infront of them or poking at them to tell them they are bad or whatever.

That's too bad. :( I totally empathize with you. I got the same advice as mamarat - leave it open. The problem with this is that when you have a deep and long laceration/incision in a place that bends a lot, it will heal (if it doesn't get infected) badly without a stitch. I have one from Mimo delivered last Monday over a knuckle bone that SHOULD have gotten a stitch, but it was Monday night and waiting in a clinic with a bunch of sick, snowy people wasn't something I felt like doing. It is healing but not evenly, as the lips of the wound fused together at different heights of each other, and the wound is in a really unfortunate place and continues to get caught on things. I have developed what looks to be a permanent cliff of scar tissue there.

If in doubt and if it looks clean/uninfected, you might want to consider a stitch, unless you're absolutely sure that hand modeling isn't in your future. :D

The one I got a couple months ago over my knuckle is healing just like your's, but it was also infected. Still hurts horribly if touched so I think there is nerve damage and I still cannot bend it all the way. This new one isn't as bad and look good (as good as it can) so far. It just keeps opening because of the location
