Long convoluted story, lots of effort to play my Part...haha. but in the end some very sick rats I think.

This ad has been up since Nov,. 17th. I emailed and didn't really get a response, so last night I emailed again and got one from "Sam".

Three 10 week old brothers in need of a good home. They are all hairless dumbo rats who were born with vision problems and will need special care and lots of love and attention. For example, they will need a single-story cage for safety and a conscientious person who will make sure that the layout of the cage stays the same after every cleaning. Aside from the vision problems they are completely healthy.

These are pets that were handled daily since birth with wonderful little personalities, so I would appreciate it if people did not contact me wanting them for feeders. Please be willing to answer a few questions about their care.

After talking to this person, they asked if I could take 2 more sickies as well as the boys. A nakie girl (sister) with the same eye issue, and a standard girl with inner ear infection and a head tilt that worsens by the day...sigh. These rats would not be getting any vet care, because they are terrible vets out in that area, and there's no more vet appointments until the new year. No pics to help me determine anything just descriptions.

Here are the relevant bits from all the emails back and forth last night

Hairless boy with both eyes in jeopardy - Sheldon
Hairless boy with one eye problem - Raj
Hairless boy runt - Howard

Head tilt - Chloe

Hairless girl with eye problem - Roxy

**Chloe is the only one who knows her name thank god LOLOL

All snake shop rescues. The nakie boys and girls were born there from a pregnant nakie rescue.

It's not porphyrin, I've treated that before - it's actual blood from the eyes themselves. They're eating and drinking and otherwise seem to be in good shape...please tell me that that's at least a good sign?

The ones with the eye problems all have red eyes - it's so hard to describe, but it almost seems as though the eyes are shrunken and then it looks like a piece of something is sticking out of them, but I don't want to touch it for fear it's attached to the entire eyeball.

Chloe, the headtilt girl, is at about 45 degrees right now, but seems to be getting worse by the day...I was planning on taking her to be treated, but as I said, the vet can't see her until the new year and the thought of her in pain until then just kills me.

No, the eyes don't look dry. Two of the three young boys are together, one is by himself (with lots of attention from me) because he's the runt and was being picked on. The mom is in the cage with the two girls and Chloe is in a large community cage with other females.

(very sad to be separating the eye issue nakie girl from her family but I cannot take in the 2 healthy girls on top of all of this, I will try to intro her to Chloe or someone ASAP)

:hugs: Will be looking forward to updates on these boys. I pray it is only a minor eye infection.

Oh my, you have your hands full! Bless for you taking in so many with so many issues. They're lucky kiddos.

the girl wanted me to take the healthy mom and sister just in case they developed the eye issues, but I couldn't take in 7 rats, so told her to keep them and if they do develop it, contact me and I'll see if I can take them in then.

Wow... this is incredible. I'd be curious to know why she only responded to your email from yesterday... they would have been much better off getting into your care in November! Whatever the reason, Santa Claus is apparently watching over them - they are gonna get the best Christmas present any rat could wish for - YOU! :hugs:

I was about to write "can't wait to see pictures", but wondering how true that is considering the graphic description of their eyes conditions... :sad3:

Well at least the girl knew that if the healthy rats got sick that she needs to find someone that can care for them.

Poor things though, seems like a bunch of rats with serious health issues are popping up.

First sweet Wilbur shows up and now a litter of babies with some scary sounding health issues.

Goodness gracious, those poor babies :/ Hopefully this rescue is a smoothe one and their eye issues aren't as terrible as they sound..

I am pretty sure that they will be worse. The rats I have taken in from this person before were all sick or much worse off than I was told. :undecided:

I have decided that Chloe will have to come with me over Christmas at my mothers/sisters, so she can get her abs and steroids right away since shes actively sick. The nakies have had these issues for awhile now, and I will start their treatments but they should be okay to stay home for 1.5 days.

It will be a Triage tonight it sounds like. :sad3: Depending on how badly off she is, I might bring my sub-q supplies just in case.

Sigh, I hope this person stops taking in or breeding or whatever more rats.

As always, you are awesome lilspaz! I hope they are home to you soon.

You are a saint, Shelagh. You said you might have to bring your sub-q supplies tonight; are you picking them up then?

Sorry...really tired after all the raving and frothing last night LOL...the sub-q supplies will come with me up to my mom's so I am prepared for any eventuality wth sick little Chloe.

The 5-some are arriving tonight at about 9:30 or so.

Is this girl a breeder, Shelagh? She makes babies, lets them get sick and calls you? Doesn't make any sense to me.

We think she tried breeding nakies, but I also think this eye thing totally freaked her out, and she won't be doing it anymore...how saleable are damaged bubs right?
