So I keep hearing about how much rats love tissues/ tissue boxes/ pulling tissues out of boxes, but I kept thinking 'Naw, that can't be right. Rats are intelligent animals that need complex mental stimulation.' That was until I put a tissue box in their cage. Henny came over, sniffed it, and halfheartedly pulled at a tissue. Then she walked away to go sleep in her shoebox. I was a little disheartened they weren't as excited about it as I though they would be... until Penny saw the tissue box. She dashed over, and after a quick inspection of the tissues, began to pull every single tissue out of the box and sprint around the cage with the tissue in her mouth. After about five minutes of this, the inside of the cage looked blanketed in snow. :laugh4: She also used the tissues that she had strewn about to line she and Henny's shoebox nest. It also appears she seems to have learned the word "tissue." Now, I can walk into the room and squeal "tissue!" and Penny begins to popcorn all over the cage, quite literally bouncing off the walls in her excitement. Rats never fail to amuse me, their antics surprise me.
