Badger has gotten so bad!

He is out on the couch right now, my BF has gloves on, just has his hand on the couch, and Badger keeps lunging at the glove ...we took Ryder away since he is trying to lunge at him too. They have been having play dates daily ..yesterday this started ..he is also like it in his cage, you cannot pick him up ..he takes food and treats nice.

He will be getting neutered May 2nd ..Monday coming ..how do I deal with this aggression? Im afraid to continue play dates now ..

Is it the smell of the other rats making his hormones go nuts?

He did live in a house for 7 months with no people interaction, and fed through the bars! ..but he was fine until after Ryders surgery ..

This is pika,

My daughter would hold the black rats that we have, pika would go nuts attacking her hand. I mean full fledge biting shaking her head like she was killing her.

I put a glove on and rubbed it on the boys and gave it to her, she attacked it, but she wont attack it without the smell. We had to use hand santizer before we could touch her if we held those 3 rats.

My rat Isis will attack my oldest daughter when she smells like the cats.

Mally, just plain bites, no reason other than she dont like to be touched on the back of her body.

The gloves don't smell like other rats, nor our hands ..but the surroundings do ..I hope this calms down after the neuter!

is there another room you could put those two in? see if he calms down? then you can see if it is the smell. I notice havoc in my mixed sex group if they are too close to the other cage. If i keep them a set distance apart they tend to be quiet.

Toby was mean when I brought him home. He is a love bug now, his neuter helped him.

Just tried to put him in ..and before we even picked him up he bite through the glove into the skin ..I really don't know how to go about this.

ETA: only this room ..ryder and badger are living separate until after the neuter ..he is fine taking treats ..he goes nuts when u touch him ..he was fine the first 10 days here.

The couch has had my guys on it..so it smells like them ..

But he is like it any where ..

Honestly... I'd probably just do the talking to him through the cage bars. No more out time for Mr. Nasty.
Once he is neutered then you start from scratch.

He is being quite aggressive and each time he gets a good bite in, he learns that he gets results which is you pulling away. So for now, don't put him in a situation where biting can happen.

The neuter should take of things easily don't worry, and yes no opportunity to bite is best. Dudley didn't get out very much before his neuter because he was insanely aggressive.

It's going to kill me to do this ..but your right ..he is after biting me once, the BF three times and once through heavy gloves and Ryder once.

Even sounds spook him ...anything loud freaks him right out.

ETA: I am going to have to warn my vet and put a sign on his hospital cage for his neuter a warning that he bites! :giggle:

Yes what they said. I didnt hold toby for almost two weeks I think when we brought him home so he couldnt bite me, but when he did bite, I didnt back off of him, but he wasnt being horrible mean.

The neuter will help him, just avoid him till then......

I did the warning to my vet as well, lol but he never tried to bite her, so she thought i was crazy saying he was a biter to watch out.

Badger came out last night! we laid his cage on the couch and took the top off, so he had access to the cage and the couch..he seemed more at ease knowing his cage was there with him. We never attempted to touch him, but I did give him treats which he took very good ..not even a snatch. He really hates my BF, they go near each other and he chatters at him :giggle:

He was out for about and hour, seemed very content after!

Awesome, now he can come out, and you don't have to feel guilty...plus its easier to be able to tell when he's calming down if you see him outside of the cage and his behaviours and reactions :)

Once he is neutered, how will I judge when it's time to re intro him and Ryder? ..of course he should be able to be handled by people first!

you'll have a better idea once you see him calm down. I have heard of boys who never bit again, the day after the neuter, and others like Dudley took 8 weeks, but Duds was much older and it was also a habit for him, not just a hormonal reaction.

oh god 8 weeks? ..I hope he is one of the lucky ones who calm down the next day! I'd hate to have Ryder living alone for months! ..keep your fingers crossed!

It can take up to 3 months but I've noticed that those with intense hormonal aggression it's really fast. My mom's Rogue, the very next day of the surgery, he was a changed rat. Rogue would literally catapult himself into the air to try and bite your leg and other accessible body parts. He was one aggressive rat.

:laugh4:

Badger isn't that bad ..but not far from it ..if you open his cage door, he will fly out at you, or if you go near the couch, he will throw himself at you ..it's retarded ...iv only had one hormonal rat and that was Hunter ..but he was only hormonal to other rats!
