I was just wondering how much childrens benadryl you can give a rat? I've noticed that Emily and Mischa have sounded a little stuffed up. They aren't to bad today so it might have been the stress of not having Raina in there with them. But they could also have alergies to this room.
So how much can they have and how often?

It depends on the concentration of your Benedryl, their weights, and how bad they're sounding.

How long have they been in that particular room? If they've been in that room for a while, they would have showed any symptoms long before now. If you just moved them from another room, how long ago did you do that? When you move them, it's basically just like the new home sneezes. There's a period of adjustment needed sometimes.

I'd give her up to 0.5 up to twice a day. My vet had recommended 1.0 for a small male. We didn't use weights at the time. Maybe start at 0.25 and see if it helps, if not go up to 0.5 ml.

Have you tried other things to make sure its allergies? I would leave benadryl as a last resort. Is the air humid enough where they are? What bedding do you have them on? Did you change rooms? Most of us medicate them first and if it doesn't respond then you can try the benadryl to see if it helps. How congested are they?

I moved here in september, but I've just noticed the last few days emily had that conjested noise in her nose and Mischa had the same thing. Sounded a lot like what Templeton did.
It's a room in a basement apartment. It sucks lol I know Ang gets really stuffed up when she comes here and I have been too. I try and vaccum as much as I can 'n stuff to hope to cut down on the allergies.
It's base board heat too which sucks. At least I'll be here for just the end of April when university is done.
They are on fleece and in their litter I have aspen shavings for now because I had a lot left when I switched them into the FN. I'm going to get some yesterday news soon 'cuase the aspen is almost gone. They've always been on aspen though...well minus being at the pet store on stupid pin shavings.

I highly doubt it's allergies. They've been in there long enough that if it had been an allergic reaction they would have presented symptoms by now. It may be the air is too dry, so you may want to try running a humidifier for a couple of days. Do you have an air purifier? You can usually find a cheap one at stores like Wal-Mart and that. That may help to.

If their congestion doesn't get better with any of that, I'd go ahead and get them to the vet for URI treatment.

If the air is dry, a humidifer will help. I have a Honeywell cool mist humidifer which allows me to set the humidity level so it turns itself off and on when needed. It is a big help.
A hepa air filter may also help. I use a Honeywell hepa air filter and it helps a lot. Since all of you are having symptoms, it may be an air quality problem where you are living.

Both of these items are sold at the Superstore, Canadian Tire and Walmart.
