Hey all. I am not as comfortable using Revolution as I am Ivermectin Paste. Personally I find it nearly impossible to get the right dosage of Revolution. There is no way I can get it into a syringe as the hole to suck it up isn't big enough. And if you try to get just a drop out of the Revolution tube the whole thing comes pouring out.

But I also have a bit of a mite outbreak and since I have over 20 some rats here to dose I didn't want to mess around with 3 different dosings over 3 weeks.

So I just did my best at making sure everyone got some on them and hoped I didn't get too much on them or not enough.

So if I did it correctly how quickly should I see results and if I don't see results how long do I wait before re dosing again?

Oh and if anyone has any hints at all to how they dose that would be great.

When Willow got mites we dosed her and everyone else, even though they were in a different room. You are right, the syringe is really hard to use with Revolution... I held the opening of the syring (pointing upward) hard against the opening on the tube of Revolution (pointing down ward) and tried my hardest to pull back on the plunger at the same speed as I squeezed out the Revolution. It wasn't easy, but with a little patience, I managed to get the precise amount I needed for each rat, which wasn't much... LOL! I had to do it only 6 times back then, I don't know if I could do it 20+ times like you would have to...It might also work to squeeze the tube into a spoon and suck it up like that... that would work pretty well. Wish I had thought of it last time! :?

I use a needle, puncture the plastic on the side and draw out the correct amount. I leave the needle puncturing the container and separate the syringe from the needle so that I can dose a rat, reconnect the needle to the syringe and continue etc.

HAHA..I never thought of using a needled syringe!

I just dump mine into a small airtight container and use a medicating syringe to draw up the right amount :)

I tried putting it into a container the last time I used Revolution oh a while ago and since it was mostly alcohol based it evaporated very quickly. Almost before I could ever get all of the rats done.

SQ, you're a genius!!!!!

You got that right! Now the question is, will the pharmacy sell me just a few needled syringes without thinking I'm some king of drug user??

By the way OldsGal, I checked the MSDS for selemectin and according to studies even a 10X overdose showed no adverse effects so if you get a little bit too much on your rat it should be no cause for concern.

oh wow really? I had mine last a couple of months in a small airtight container. :(

It still takes 3 weeks for the life cycle to end.

Revolution just kills the adults... any eggs still need to "incubate", then hatch, then be killed by the Revolution once they are out of the egg.

So once the final eggs hatch and those buggies are killed, which is approximately 3 weeks, then the life cycle has ended.

This is why Revolution is awesome, because it stays in the system for 30 days -- the entire duration of the life cycle. Ivermectin only stays in the system for approximately 1 week, so you have to keep dosing, to make sure there is still some in the system when those leftover eggs hatch.

The minimum amount of time you want to wait before re-dosing is 2 weeks. But if you can wait for 3 weeks - 1 month that would be better.

I put the revolution into a small red topped serum blood tube and cap it tightly and it stays in there indefinitely. I then dose with a small 3/10cc syringe out of that tube.

I have never used a syringe, I just squeeze one drop out of the tube. I have always noticed results very quickly, within 24 hours as already mentioned.
I used to use the Ivermectin paste, and did many times before finding a vet that would prescribe Revolution, but the stuff really scares me. I would rather use a safer product - which Revolution is. Plus, it is much more affective against mites and less hassle.

I do the same as SQ.....If you buy a large dog revolution you can dose let me think....10 cats......much cheaper then buying individual kitty doses....You can go in with a few friend s and split the cost.......the vet should give you a needle and syringe......mine did.
