We have a bedroom in our house just for the rats, I clean the cages every other day and everything... for some reason there is STILL a smell when we walk in the room. We've washed the cages from top to bottom, changed the hammocks, etc. and just cant win.

Is there a trick to this? Could it be because we have to keep the door closed? I have a baby gate I could put up if that's going to help?

An enclosed room will definitely hold the smell more... keeping in mind that same would be true if you kept a dog or cats in an enclosed room. They have a natural body odor and no amount of cleaning will take that away. I'd try to keep the door open with the baby gate. You could also get an air purifier?

Okay thank you!
I will start leaving the door open with the baby gate and work on getting an air purifier. I'd love to open up the windows in there for some fresh air too but it's just been so chilly lately I haven't had much of a chance to do that unfortunately.

You can never get rid of the smell 100% but I found when I got rid of the fleece and went back to the carefresh that helped substantially. Between that and litter training it makes a world of difference. I just kept making one small change at a time until I found a solution.
Good luck.

Thank you =)
Mine are litter trained but the boys slack sometimes with it, boys will be boys right? lol. I never had a smell issue till I got male rats, they are so impossible to keep completely clean.
