Horatio the hairless boy I took in with the babies this summer has a stink eye his head region smells. From what I saw of his mouth and teeth, that area looks ok. since his eyes are staining, I am guessing that is the problem. It is drippy but I cannot tell if it is blood or porphy. I have a horrible time telling the two apart....... I have zero experience with eye infections, Templeton has eye muck but never had a smell.

the eye drops i have are tobramycin ophthalmic solutions usp. I am not sure what to do...I dot think my vet is in this week at all till after christmas. I really dont have as much faith in anyone else there but him.

This boy hates to be held. I have tried and tried to get through to him and the little bugger just hates me. You can imagine my fight to get the drops in, or to give him oral meds, he refuses to take them from anything I have offered him. I tried to get some good pictures but epic fail.

This is the main eye i am concerned about. The eye itself looks ok from what I see but who knows what I miss in the eyes.

I have tons of other meds here I just dont know anything orally will help or if it is best to stick with eye drops.

Yeah I know...your crew showed me how bad they can get! LOL Leave up to your rats to be huge educational tools.

So baytril? I wasnt sure if that worked for eyes, you know the list of meds i have so let me know which one LOL

start there I think.

Poor thing! D:

Just force feed/drip them into him if you have to, I guess...
Oh, if you have an ultraviolet lightbulb, you can use that to distinquish porphy. from blood! (porphy. will light up)

I've used Polysporin for eyes before as per my vet.

I cannot get that in the US without a vet prescription. I think that is the one that you can get in Canada without one.

Yes they do. That is why I am always smelling their faces :) I am hoping it stops at this and goes not further. That is why I wanted to post but I will have to start setting aside for a fund for him just incase. His eye looks good still. Do they ever get over eye infections?

this boy that feeder breeder said "I will let you take him as long as you promise he wont be fed off" LOL really? Every time i look at him I picture that or think of it. Drive me up the wall.

Evie (my hairless) had a stinky eye and with Baytril and Polysporin it healed well. Good luck with your sweetie.

That is good to know. The only ones i remember are the one the eye came out. I wasnt sure how easy they are to heal. I hope so poor boy has to like me, If i take his eye I will ruin my chances LOL
