Haven't posted in a while but just wondered if anyone had any advice at all.

Lizzie is about 5 or 6 months old.... we didn't get her that long ago. When she came to us she was snuffly and had been kept on sawdust.

Today she seemed a it unwell, didn't do anything during playtime (very unlike her). She sounded like she had a respiratory so decided to give her baytril. Anyway we went to put her back in after playtime (which she just slept through). She felt quite hot, but just thought that was because the other girls had accidently moved a blanket they play on, over her. Anyway she is still hot almost an hour later :( Her paws and nose and lips all look red, she is warm to the touch.

Does anyone know what would cause this?

Thank you in advance

How long was she under that blanket and was she able to move or stuck?

Is she breathing hard? is it to hot in the house? do you have a cooler room to put her in?

also sorry, if she will eat get some peas and thaw them out and give them to her. Maybe she will cool off that way.

Thanks for replying. It is quite warm here but it's been hotter and she's been okay.
She wasn't under the blanket for now at all, she could easily have got out, it was just sort of sitting on her back. :/
They're having dinner right now and there is cold food on the plate, she's not that interested though. :(

Sometimes people will keep a clay tile in the fridge, and then bring it out for the ratties to lay on, if they are so inclined, to cool off. Animals cool off by pumping blood to the surface and extremities, so the reason she is so red may be because she is hot and her body is trying to cool down. Her tail would be quite warm too.
If her nose and paws are more blue than red, then she may be having respiratory/heart problems.

Check to see if she is dehydrated (pull up on the skin on the bak of her neck and let go ... if it snaps back into plae she is likely ok, otherwise she is dehydrated).

If she is dehydrated, try to get fluids into her.
You can give an oral rehydration formula such as pedilite sold at the pharmacy for young children
or make a homemade solution (see viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11058)
She may need sub Q fluids. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6235

Thanks for the replies.

I couldn't get her to the vet last night, brother had the car and the on call vet is terrible, but phoned first thing and they can see her at 9.30 (just half an hour until then now).

She's very sleepy, she is actually drinking a good amount, she's always drank a fair amount I've noticed. The room is cool this morning, and she is still red. :( Will update after the vets.
