Honeymoon with or without the kids?

So my fiancée and I are getting married July 25 :joy: and I'm debating weather or not to take the rats with us. We are going to stay in a cabin in NH right on the water!!! We love the outdoors and although not the typical honeymoon we couldn't be happier with it!!! We'll be gone for a week so I want to take them with us and I know they all do great in the car and I could take a decent size cage with me but my other option is that my mother in law can watch them. She doesn't have any rats of her own but has ha other rodents and she LOVES all of our rats (the only understanding family member lol) and is a ahuge animal lover. I am 100% confident she would take great care of them but I'm not sure if she could let all six of them out at night whereas, the would come out if they came with me.
So is it better for them to have their normal cage in a new environment with a fairly strange person and not get to come out at night? OR Be with me and my fiancee in a different cage but having out time at night?

That's a tough one... but if you totally trust her, I'd probably leave the rats in her capable hands.

Congrats! i'm in a similar situation actually. When I go on holiday, I don't know whether to leave them with my parents, who will look after them fine but won't give them anywhere near the attention i'd give them (they hate Ratty tails!) or I can take them with us, with the catch that it would have to be a pretty small cage. Right now I think i'll just try and get my parents to love them like I do!

I say leave them at home so you can spend a care free week doing whatever you want, whenever you want. Congrats!

You need some 100% undivided time with hubby for your honeymoon.... enjoy it with him and your rats will survive not *quite* getting their usual out time

My husaband and I did the same thing in October. We honeymooned in the mountains and brought the kids. We wished we hadn't. We were all a bit cramped in the cabin, and most of the things my husband and I wanted to do we couldn't do with the girls. Plus, at least one of my girls is not a good traveler.
