Can rats hiccup? I look at my rats sometimes and they look like they are huccuping... little twitchies... but they are fine otherwise... and it only lasts for a few minutes.

I know dogs can hiccup... I don't see why rats wouldn't be able to...

just curious.

Yes, they can and do. Many people think it's a sign of Myco infection flareup. If one of mine hiccups for a couple of days in a row, I put him/her on Baytril. That stops it.

Not everyone thinks that hiccups mean anything, though. There is a thread about this topic somewhere. You might want to do a Search.

I don't know how i posted that like 5 times. sorry
thanks tho. They don't ever last more than a few minutes at a time, and they don't do it every day.

I read that hiccups aren't related to myco at all, but I can't find the literature to back it up. It was originally said by Debbie Ducummon I think and alot of her info from back in the day is outdated. My heart rat gets hiccups all the time and [knock on wood] he's only had 1 URI at almost 3 years old.

Why do they get URI's so much? Do wild rats get this as often Norvegicus i mean?

Their respiratory systems are soo delicate and sensitive. Not too sure if wild rats get it as often...but many don't even make it past 1 year, so it's not a very fair comparison anyways.
