Hi
I am new here and just went and picked up the male rat from CL he has some cuts on him and I am worried I have had him for about an hour does anyone know what this could be
or can I call someone ??

(Call somone?)

It might be that he has mites and has been scratching a lot. My vet treats with Invermectin (well I do that at home, but buy it from the vet :) ). One drop to the back of the neck once a week for 3-4 weeks. I know a lot of vets over there use Revo... I can't remember the full name and know nothing about it.

Have a look through his fur and see if you can see any tiny moving dots.

When you aren't used to some of the horrible conditions that some people keep their rats in, it's pretty scary.
But your guy will be fine with his gashes or cuts, they heal so fast. But I do recommend that you quarantine him away from your current rats just in case he has anything else going on, you don't want him to infect your rats. I would also get him treated for mites, that's always a good rule of thumb with any rat coming off of an ad.
And... CongRATS!!! on your new little buddy.

yes he does
what does this mean ?
mites?
I was wondering if this could be out of boredom since I just picked him up at 7:30
and he came in a tank with nothing in it but a bandanna and his dishes and a little ball

the dog kind or is there one for rats ?
would I not have to take him to the vet?
and if it is mites can it pass to my dog ?

kitten/puppy, cat or dog all work :) There is no rat one as such.

No your dog is quite safe, since rats have their own type of mites, etc

One member had mites I believe that did pass between the rats and dogs. Not common but obviously can happen.
