So I think my vet might have switched up labels for my doxy and baytril bottle. This time, its the doxy that is cherry flavored, but I am 99% sure that my vet said that it was the baytril that was supposed to be cherry flavored. And I just want to make sure that they arent mixed up, because I give .25mL for the doxy and .20mL for the baytril, and I dont want to give more of the one I'm supposed to be giving less of, and less of the one I am supposed to be giving more of. Make sense?
The baytril is clear, and the doxy is thicker and red.
And also, I was on chat, and we were debating whether the reason you are not supposed to give dairy with doxy is because rats are lactose intolerant. And does this rule apply to not too much calcium too?

And I know I'm probably just over worrying, as usual. :D

the reason you don't give dairy with doxy is the calcium. Calcium binds to the doxy rendering it ineffective. There's also iron, etc that can affect it as well. I don't think all rats are lactose intolerant, but I still think it should be fed in moderation.

How much does your rat weigh and what are the concentrations of your baytril and doxy? (?? mg/ml on the bottle)

Okay thanks a lot!
so baytril is usually clear and thin right??...just checking since I thought my vet might have switched the labels by accident, because I thought she said that the baytril was available cherry flavored, but the label for doxy was the one that was cherry.

The Diary and Calcium thing don't have much to do with each other. The only reason most people wouldn't give Doxy in Dairy is because Dairy has Calcium.

To be honest, I don't follow the no-calcium rule anymore after Roy. I've questioned it a lot and what I found was that (and I may word this wrong because I'm tired and it was a while ago) Doycycline was the least reactive of the Cyclines, and that if it did bind with the calcium, it would only be a tiny, tiny amount and not really make much of a difference, if any at all.

A lot of people feel better going no-calcium, which is cool, but if you really have to give it with calcium it really wont make much of a difference in it's effectiveness.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind.

Well, yeah I guess it is just a flavoring, I just thought that my vet had mixed up the labels, and the one that said doxy was actually baytril ,and the one that said baytril was actually doxy. Its complicated. I guess because my vet said they put cherry flavoring in baytril, but didnt mention cherry for doxy, and the bottle of the med with cherry flavor said it was doxy, and not baytril, so I was confused. And now I'm even more confused now. :?
