Hi guys,
So after a few months straight of no vet appointments (except for checking a little pimple on my dog's eye), now in the space of one month, i get this...

- We say goodbye to Mr.Floyd who was very old and wouldn't take another tumor treatment;
- We treat little Ziggy for a urinary infection, all ok now.
- We almost lose our cat due to a flea's bite... it seems like it was infected with some mite. Jeremy got a fever, stopped eating and got anemic real quick... real pain. He's fine now as well.

So. I'm out of vet money. Actually I'm out of money... period.

And the day before yesterday i come to the rat room to find one of the cage's door open. Bowie, Mago and Ziggy were asleep in the cat's bedroom, on the window, which is sunny during the afternoon but not such a warm place during the morning... All the kids are ok, but Bowie's respiration is quite noisy. I'm not sure if he has myco or if he just got a cold?...

So i've been giving him a little baytril i had left from Ziggy's treatment, but i'm going out of it.
I'm going to buy more tomorrow but problem is, on the pharmacy they don't have the liquid solution, only pills, and i'm not sure of the dosage.

I think this is it:
For a 15mg pill (the smaller i can get) i should give 1/3 of it.
So i should break it into three pieces and give one a day, for about six days...
Bowie weights 400gr.

Do you think that this can be alright?
Or i should just take him to the vet and ask to pay next month or something...
Is this an emergency or something i can treat?

Thanks for any help!

I'm up sweetie...

ok 15 mg pill? How many do you have?

I would keep it easy, pick up a strawberry syrup to mix your meds with (a lot of us here use Nesquk Strawberry syrup but I don't know what you have available). We take a bottle and roughly mix up half and half with syrup and water...you can go a little heavier on the syrup to ensure the bitter taste is covered a bit better.

Then use 1 ml of this solution to 1 of your pills, giving you 15 mg/ml baytril solution.

AT 400 grams Bowie would get 10 mg/kg or a dose of .27 cc twice a day.

Aw i wish i knew this before i started my biotics with my two boys :( They really dont like taking their meds, i have to hold their heads up keeping them gently tucked into me, but they still fight, almost desperatly, it kills me to watch. This I know is due to that they are still getting used to me, they aren't used to all the handling, and of course they simply dont like to be force fed. But I think my Techno may be doing a little bit better.

Fake alert. He did seem fine for two days, but hen he went back to noisy breathing :/
I'm keeping him on Baytril for another week and if he doesn't get better, we go to the vet.
