Sophie is wet in the vaginal area, she is a beige color rat and there is yellowish staining, I only noticed this today, any ideas?

UPDATE

Just back from our vet! he was already off for an hour and a half but still stayed to see Sophie. He did a complete examination, did a urine test, ruled out bladder, kidney, urinary problems. He said Sophie was as healthy as a horse! :happydance:

She just finished baytrail from sneezing, he thinks its a reaction from that!

So 220 dollars later, she got a perfect bill of health

Is there a smell?
It may be pus if so, which may indicate pyometra, have a read at this link. Put her in a carry case with a white towel to check if her urine has blood, is smelling odd etc..

she is in a carrier with white paper towels now, smells like pee, she is only 9 months, acting normal.

You'll have to lift her up and smell 'down there', you can usually tell if it smells infected or just not right. Is it possibly urine or definitely not?

I would say she is getting a little carried away with marking and is making herself wet OR maybe a urinary tract infection just starting as the worst case.

I have one girl who makes no effort to "remove" herself from her own pee... so she can be a little damp at times.

I also herd about rats "marinating" them self in the pee >.< But i only herd this from other users replying to others posts about pee spots on them and such. (i think it was Shel) who said something about it but can not be too sure.

I have one girl Vegas who does this as we got her a check up and the vet said she was fine. So we do daily clean ups with a damp cloth on the area.

What makes you think it could be a urine infection ashana (sorry if I sound rude) :) ?

Some of the signs of a urinary tract infection are :
Increased frequency of urination - If you have ever had a UTI you will know why. It makes you feel like you have gotta pee all the darn time, very frustrating especially when only a drop or 2 happens and you still feel busting.
Dampness of fur from urine around perineum - self explanatory LOL

Obviously if it is a raging infection then the smell of the urine would be odd or cloudy plus blood or porphyrin may be seen in the urine also.

I was just putting things out there that may be contributing. Hoping that she is just marinating herself today though.

Just back from our vet ..emergency appointment ..he totally checked over Sophie, and did a Urine test ..the urine test came back perfect and he said Sophie is a very healthy lil girl ..she finished Baytrail today (start of a respiratory infection) ...he said it could have been a reaction from the Baytrail ..everything else is ruled out ..kideny problems, bladder problems, renal problems, urinary problems
