I had a female rat by itself for a while and then my friend had to get rid of hers so I took it in and now they are not really fighting but I guess u could call it play fighting but one of them is scared now and I want to know when it will stop? Are they just trying to find which is more dominant?

Mine is close to year I believe and the other is a few months younger. They aren't constantly doing this and I have them in a tank cuz at petsmart they told me this was better and it's 30 gal or more I believe. They aren't squeeking ir anything when they fight they just like pin eachother down and then stop and smell eahother

Sounds like they are having a lot of fun playing.
If you can afford it, get your girls out of that tank and into a nice wire cage. Tanks really aren't good because it doesn't allow for enough air flow as well as create ammonia buildup.

Yeah I was just worried cuz the one seems a little scared of the other but they have only been together for a few hours and it's a new home for him so maybe that's all he's scared about. I just love them both and worry a little too much maybe :)

Nope two females, they are doing alot better now tho :) I think they were just getting used to eachother, I just freaked out a little bit

Did you introduce them and clean the tank before putting them together or did you just put the new girl in with your lone girl?

They should NOT be in a tank, definitely get them a cage ASAP. The ammonia build up in tanks can cause bad URI's and that can lead to costly vet bills! Nobody wants those  Also, rats loooove to climb, which is impossible in a tank. Finally, a 30 gallon is much too small anyways for a pair of rats.

Did you follow proper intro steps?

That's great, especially without proper intros, I'm glad the girls are getting along.

Some girls are easily added together. If you don't see any real fighting like with blood and such, I'd leave them together. But like it was mentioned, try and get them a better habitat. We have a section called Habitat, it could help you with ideas on what you could get your new little friends. :)
