Ok I feel horrible :( I gave my pet rat to a friend after having my baby boy 3 months ago ,

She called me this morning telling me nounou was on her last days !!!! she is 3 years old and has always been in great health when I had her , now she has a huge cut on her right eye ... she smells rancid and is dirty as hell ... she is also tilting her head to one side and if she stands up she falls right over :((((

I have no money for the vet as my baby is on expensive hypoallergenic milk that cost ALLOT .. and my hubby wont make me spent on a pet rat to get her fixed :((( what can I do at home to help her ...

Hers what ive done so far
* Polysporin on her eye and maybe put some drops in her ears ?
* Fed her some baby rice with baby formula for extra nutrients as shes sooo skinny
* Gave her 0.5ml of baby motrin for pain

She needs a bath but im worried about hurting her

If she has a head tilt that is going to be an ear infection, which could count for the smell too. It will required ABS, they do not clear up on their own.

If you have a baby then you have baby wipes, use one on her, if she isnt feeling well then I wouldnt put water into the mix.

So far what you did is great. Keep doing the motrin for pain management.
At her age the tilt could be part of pituitary tumour or it could be an ear infection.

ty very much for the reply :) I ll keep doing that for a week and see how it goes mean while ill try to save some money and se if i can bring her to the vet ..also i have some anti biotics that were prescribed for me which i never used its amoxilin can I give her any one that ?

Where in Quebec are you? You may be able to surrender her to a shelter or a vet so she can get the care she needs and then they can find her a good home.

There is a small, small mammal shelter based at the faculty of veterinary medicine in St. Hyacinthe you can contact. They are very small so there may not be space, but it is probably the best shelter for a rat with health issues as they have the ability and resources to focus on treating them.

Contact them and see what they say. Otherwise, you can contact the Montreal SPCA Exotic Animal Department about surrendering her there. I volunteer there so I know they will do their best. Ear infections or PT need to be treated quickly, otherwise treatment is not as likely to be effective.

Sadly NOUNOU passed away in my arms on friday night :( I just kept her warm in her fleece blankie and spoke softly to her while petting her head and she fell asleep and never woke up ! So im kinds happy she didnt suffer but extreamly sad she wont be here anymore
