Help for Kaina!

Kaina my ol' girl and heart rat, she's such a doll and she loves her mom alot too (she's currently running around in my room as I'm writing this)...has started making these wheezing/monkey/whimpering/squeaking sounds (it's hard to explain) she even coughed (liked hiccuped with sound) earlier.

Im so worried I think of all of my rats she's the one that I'd bend over backwards for cause by loving me as she does I also feel that she rely's on me to keep her healthy and unharmed no matter what mischief she puts herself in.

Now a bit about her: She love's food always has her weaknesses are chips and candy she doesnt get anymore candy but the occasional small piece of chip she get's because she'll listen better when there's a chip in it for her, so she's chubby
I'm ready to cut those out of her diet !
She'll be 2 this Christmas might be a bit older she came from a pet store.
I rat phoned her she sounds totally clear!

What could she have?

did you listen to both lungs? Wait and listen for awhile to listen to roughness of any sort. If you still don't hear anything, it could be nasal, and you could try steaming her.

It sound's nasal but ill listen to her lungs to make sure!

Hopefully this vid will work, sorry for the quality it's more a sound vid and I have no recording speakers here to record her faint breathing but I cheked it with the volume up at a decent level and headphones on u can hear her..the hoot sound!

That does sound like wheezing. I'd get her to a vet and get baytril and doxy.

Hey Rebel Angel!

Don't worry, your little girl sounds pretty nice for 2 years. Lots of rats have respiratory issues, no matter how old, and if you nip them in the bud with some antibiotics from a good vet, it's usually like they never happened. She doesn't sound THAT bad(though it's maybe that I can't hear it so well), but it can quickly get bad with worse consequences, escpecially with an older rat, so don't wait long to get her some medication. Usually they will give you a baytril+doxyciciline combination, and you want over 2 weeks of that- the minimum being 3.

No I dont think she's so bad either but as mentioned I'd never forgive myself if she's in pain..she's a girl with a short temper naturally but lately she seem's to have none from what i hear from the rat cage *lol*
