Today has just not been my day :sad3:

I spent the night away from home last night, and I just got home about an hour ago, and lo and behold, Alice isn't in her cage. I've searched it from top to bottom, tore out the liners, the hammocks, everything, and she isn't in there. I ripped apart my bedroom (where her cage is) And I can't find her in here either.. I know rats are elusive and she may still be hiding somewhere in my room, but what can I do to coax her out? I've left the cage door open with a ladder going into it, and I've also got a pile of treats in the middle of the floor, but is there anything else I can do?

Is she still in the room? If so, can you shut the room off from the rest of your home.
Any predators around? If so, you will need to confine them.

Put her cage on the floor with water and tastey food that can not be carried away in a dish.
Put a shelter in the cage with soft bedding that smells like her (or smells like her cagemates if she has friends)
Sprinkle flour on the floor around the cage so if she doesn't stay, at least you will know what direction she headed off in.

Hopefully she go into the cage to eat and then settle in to sleep.

Turn out the light and eventually, when she feels safe he may approach the cage.

If this doesn't work, you can try to catch her with a have-a-hart humane trap.

Sometimes catching escapes happens quickly, other times they are having so much fun exploring that it takes a few days.

good luck

Oh no-! I hope you find her soon. I've never had any ratties who were tricky to catch/find. They've always been openly explorey and came right to me if I laid on the floor.

Good luck :cuddle:

I've got her! My bedroom has glass french doors, so I sat outside and watched a bowl of peach baby food in the center of the floor like a hawk the majority of the night. She's in a temp-cage right now until tonight, when I can pick up some mesh to go around her current one to prevent any future escapes.

Thanks for the well wishes and tips, They totally came in handy. :D

Man, Alice.... you need to work on your escape techniques there sweetie. Foiled by PEACH BABY FOOD??? The "Godfather" would not be proud. :giggle:
