Rosie has been very snuffly over the last 6 months. I cannot get abs into her. My vet Dr. Randall has always had a script on standby for me for a course of cortisone injections (twice daily for the first three days, then once a day for four days) to reduce inflamation and help her breathing and I've been seeing him regularly to assess her breathing.
On Thursday night I got home and she was labouring for breath, she was fine the day before. I called the emergency vet on duty, Dr Semi and she met me at the clinic so I could pick up the injections and start the course that night. I gave Rose steam therapy four times that evening (put the humidifier in the bathroom and steamed the whole room up for the evening). She seemed to improve immediately. On Friday she was better again and I went to see Randall that afternoon just so he could check on her. This morning (Saturday) I got up and she has a large lump under her left arm and what feels like a thicking or beginning of a lump under her right. We went back see Randall again this morning and he said it definately was not there yesterday afternoon. So it's likely the steriods are having an effect on her. He took an aspiration of the lump and it's not an abcess. There's no blood and there were only a few lymph cells which he said in cats and dogs indicates it's not a 'scientific term' tumor. (I can't remember the name). He's not sure exactly what it could be. He said we could take a biopsy or he could send the slide results taken today and see what comes up.
Rosie is a Russian Blue berkshire and has just turned 2 years old. She's never had any other problems except for her breathing issues.
I can stop the cort injections but then she won't be able to breath again or I can keep going and keep a close eye on the lump/s. I'd like to know:
1) Is this common?
2) Are the lumps likely to be painful?
3) Could they go down once we stop the cort?
Any help would be much appreciated. I don't want to draw this out for Rosie if it's all just downhill from here....and they go down so fast you know :cry4:
