Harvey is a 16 month old intact male I've had for a few months now. Other than an SDA outbreak when he was 4 months old he's been a very healthy rat. He's quite huge, around 700 grams.

Tonight B noticed that Harvey had a large lump on his neck. Since we just now saw it, I'm assuming it grew really quickly, It feels nothing like an abscess to me, it is instead deep, large, and very squishy. I have no idea what it could be. He doesn't seem to be sneezing or showing other signs of being sick.

Pictures: Ignore the messy room, Fridays are cleaning days (tonight is Thursday).

My super good vet is back in town on Monday. If he needs to go into the vet sooner I can take him to another vet who really cares, but has a lot less experience. Any ideas?

Hopefully it's nothing serious... reminds me of when of mine had a nick to the area and it filled in with blood instead of bleeding out. Is he acting normal otherwise, like it's not impeding his breathing or eating?

Strange, there is no lump this morning. If its there its too deep and small to be noticed. He's a bit lethargic and sneezy, but thats probably just because I woke him up. Normally they don't wake up for another couple of hours. I guess now we wait to see if it comes back.

My original post to you was going to be... that sounds so familiar so I went back and looked at my notes and sure enough it had disappeared as well and figured it wasn't anything to be worried about.
Weird eh?
Hopefully it was nothing and won't come back.
