I'm putting up this post for an acquaintance. I do not know the rat at all...I just wanted to help her figure it out.

The owner states she is over 3 years old, her hairloss started about 3 months ago and now she has developed a rash along with scabs. She stated it started on her face, and has obviously progressed. (I forgot to ask if she's used rev, so I just emailed her). She said that she's been on doxy as well. (I told her to grab some baytril)

Any suggestions?

If rats can get mange, I would go there if it isnt mites. I would dose with revo and go to a vet.

Rats can get sarcopic mange (sp?) and Revo is not effective against it, she'd have to use Ivermectin. It may also be pyoderma, I'm not sure if it can present in different ways in rats.

This is what the owner just said:

"Yea I put it on her about a month ago and again at the store yesterday. Had her since Feb. and it started on her face about 3 months ago and spread to that. I thought it was a uri at first so I put her on doxy, baytril and a small amount of baby liquid asprin. She's in a cage with 5 other rats and they don't have this. I used to do fleece on the bottom for bedding I changed to to Kaytee Clean & cozy thinking maybe she's allergic to the detergent beginning of the 2nd month. Her diet has been Mazuri lab blocks, apple sauce, diced peaches, frozen banana, some leafy greens, broccoli, peas, carrots, fresh steamed corn (very little) and once a week Nature cafe cockatiel seed (Safflower and sunflower seed mix) in a pinata birds toy that they have to shred to get the treat out. Every now and then I give them my pizza crust."

Also...I found this on the rat guide, this looks like exactly what she has but she is more red/raw
