Hi all,
I did a quick search of the forum and didn't find any similar cases, so I thought I'd post my experience dealing with hairless skin issues for others who may deal with something similar in the future.
I adopted two hairless girls from craigslist a few months ago. One of them had horrible, raw lesions on her side and legs. Vet decided it didn't look like a burn but probably an infection of some sort. I decided to treat both girls just to be safe, but really one the one rat has had any skin issues.
Started her out on Amoxicillin twice daily, along with cleaning the lesions with betadine once a day. After 5 days of antibiotics, I saw no improvement in her skin, and both rats developed diarrhea, so took them to exotics specialist.
Found a neat protozoan on a fecal exam - so added in Metronidazole once a say for five days (stools returned to normal consistency). Specialist thought mites may have been a component since the girls were previously housed on cheap pine bedding, so treated with Revolution.
About a week after treating with Revolution, began to see skin improvement. Re-applied Revolution 3 weeks after initial dose. Continued to see gradual improvement.
We're not quite at 100% yet, but getting pretty darn close! Here are some pics for comparison:

Has anyone here had a similar experience?
