I am relatively new to rat owning (almost a year). I LOVE my girls, but have been a little confused about their range in sizes? Two of my girls I have are 7 months old, and even though they have grown ALOT since I got them at 8 weeks old, but they are still small compared to my girls a little older then them. They eat fine and play and romp just as well as any other rats I have seen.

Is there any kind of standard I can check to make sure that they are growing alright and gaining weight as they should be?

There is no standard that would be like assuming all humans are the same size. I have girls that are bigger than my boys, boys that are huge. They all range in size.

I Googled quickly and can't find any conclusive 'average' size for domesticated rats. However, most animals vary in size - there is no 'perfect' size for a pet cat or golden retriever, for instance. When I had girls they were rather petite, however, I once saw two adult girls in a pet store who were easily the size I would expect from an adult male. I wonder what they were eating :laugh4: Anyway, I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about!

By 6 to 7 months, rats are adults and full grown. The most they will do now is get fat. lol
I've had tiny tiny rats and big rats, they come in all shapes and sizes.

Some rats are just like that. :)

My Matilda is very slim in build. She eats 12 times as much as No Name, but is half her size.

Thank you guys for your answers. I feel a lot better. I suppose these girls are just petite. I do love them so! I just wanted to make sure that their extra tiny stature was not a matter of concern.
